Considering how bored I am just waiting for this kid to weasel his way out of my womb, I finally finished all my thank you cards from baby showers and baby gifts.  Though I did not count all the cards I made and the cards I wrote since that first baby shower in October, I’m going to guess that it’s way over 50.  We are so lucky to have that many people in our lives who are willing to show us love and support through all of this.  Needless to say, no one is getting a Christmas card.  This kid is due between -5 days ago and December 22 (induction date).  Besides, our gift to the families this year is a grandson/great-grandson/nephew/cousin.  I couldn’t begin to top that with a handmade card.

This thing took about an hour and half to free hand. That makes it sound like I made this up. That would be a lie. I used this picture to eyeball off of.

In the midst of my boredom with my best friend/husband gone on TDY, I keep coming up with crafting ideas.  While walking around Michael’s Craft Store today, I realized that I simply NEEDED a ribbon organizer.  However, Mamacita here can’t justify spending money on something she can make (third person references over).  Thus, my first tutorial.

Step One: gather your materials.  You’ll need cardboard (I used a moving box), scissors, glue, tape, modge podge glue, craft paper, ribbon and two brads.

Step Two: Cut out pieces of cardboard to assemble your box.  You’ll need two long sides, two end pieces, one bottom piece.  No, I did not measure anything.  I never do. Box pieces

Step Three: Assemble that bad boy any way you can.  At first, I tried hot gluing the box together.  MASSIVE FAILURE  I have a high temperature hot glue gun with low temperature glue.  I made a gigantic mess and pretty sure I killed my hot glue gun.  After that, I moved towards E6000 Industrial Strength Craft Adhesive.  After I glued all the sides together, I taped them in the box shape to ensure nothing shifted around.Box

Step Four: Don’t be dumb like me.  Knowing that I wanted this box to have a slit for the ribbon to hang out of, I didn’t cut one in the side of the box until AFTER I glued it all together.  So at this point, I had to carefully cut a tiny slit through the side.  In your box assembly, do that part before please.Slit

Step Five: Modge podge the sides with whatever craft paper you so please.  Spice it up.  On mine, I weaved some coordinating paper on the sides.  Maybe for yourself, create a collage.

Step Six: After cutting out the slit in the craft paper, cut out another piece of cardboard to make a top for your box.  I simply measured the top of the box onto a piece of cardboard and added an inch for gluing purposes.

Lid of box

Step Seven: Modge podge your lid to coordinate with the rest of the box.  My lid kept popping up so I used, wait for it, RIBBON to keep it shut.  In order to fasten the ribbon on top, I used two yellow brads to secure the ribbon.  Just check out the picture.  It’s pretty self explanatory.Yellow brad fasteners

Step Eight: You’re all done.  I added the tag on top just in case I forgot what I made the box for.

YAY!  Ribbon organizer done!
